Résumé Help: Elementary School on Your Résumé?

Karen’s résumé is starting with some of her least impressive information.  A prospective employer or a recruiter will likely delete Karen’s résumé before he or she gets to through the first half of page one. 

First, the objective she has can be replaced with a summary statement to overview her relevant skills and characteristics.  The vague information she has in her objective does not reveal much about what Karen offers. 

Another area to polish is Karen’s education section.  The first two schools listed do not even hint at what she studied or the type of degree/certificate that she earned.  It is important to show those details.  Also, Karen is not a recent graduate.  So her education should appear later on her résumé after her professional experience. However, the biggest blunder is Karen’s listing of her elementary and high school on her résumé.  A high school diploma should only be on the résumé of a recent high school graduate.  Elementary education should never be on a résumé, unless you are a fifth grader working on a school project.
