Continuing Education: Don't just sit around - learn something!
If you have recently been laid off or find yourself in a transitional period, sitting around on the couch waiting for things to happen is not a good use of time or resources. Times of transition or other breaks from full-time employment should be used as an opportunity to develop new or enhance existing skills. Continuing education is a great way to enhance your résumé and will facilitate a proactive approach to managing your ongoing professional and personal development. Many people are content to send out résumés and ‘pound the pavement’ for new positions.
Consider however, that this time can be spent doing that as well as developing new skills that will make you more marketable. There are many continuing education resources and programs that are FREE! (or very close to free). Yes, I did say FREE. You do not have to take out a second mortgage or sell a kidney. You can learn a new language and embark on numerous other training / educational initiatives that will enlighten you, help you enhance or develop new skills, and maybe even identify something new that you would like to embark on in a professional capacity.
Over a series of Blogs I will cover the following areas:
- Foreign languages
- Presentation skills
- Technical training
- Productivity software training
- Business basics
- Business skills
Stay Tuned!
