In Person Interview Strategies That Will Make You Shine

Competition is so fierce in today’s job market; you need to give yourself a competitive advantage by developing and managing your personal brand. Your traditional resume, digital presence, and in-person persona all act in unison to demonstrate your qualifications. Here are a few interview strategies that can help set you apart from your peers and competition in a positive way.

  1. Be prepared to answer why you, why the company, why the industry, and why now. If you are unable to answer these questions clearly and succinctly, you might as well re-schedule your interview and go back to the drawing board. If you are serious about an opportunity, the answers to these questions should flow with ease and confident enthusiasm.
  2. Know who the CEO is and gather as much of his or her backstory as possible. In addition to reading up on any news related to the company you are targeting, it is considered a best practice to come to the in-person interview knowing something about the company’s leadership. Companies tend to take on the personality of their most senior and influential leader – meaning the culture of the company is established at the top. Do your due diligence; make sure you understand something about the person responsible for the full operation. Not only will you be better informed, but you will also demonstrate that you did your due diligence.
  3. Explain why your target company is better than its competitors. Recruiters at companies want to know that you will be a team-player and generally an optimist when it comes to the company’s future prospects. You should be able to speak eloquently about why your target company’s products or services are superior to its competitors to highlight your belief in the company’s core mission and vision.

Applying these strategies will give you an advantage over others interviewing for the same role. The research and manner in which you deliver your answers remains crucial to communicating the right message to a possible employer.
