Cover Letter Help: Add Accomplishments to Entice the Reader

Gordon was struggling with his cover letter.  He did an adequate job of communicating the job to which he was applying as well as listing the type of work he has done.  There is room for improvement.  For example, most of his sentences start with “I.”  It would be more interesting to use a variety of language and sentence structures.  In the example, you can see the sentences that should be changed and suggestions for new language.

Additionally, there is a big gap in Gordon’s cover letter.  He has not provided any examples of accomplishments to demonstrate his qualifications for the position.  I recommend that Gordon insert a middle paragraph. The middle paragraph is an ideal place to get specific about the value you offer to this employer. The best way to demonstrate your value is to share examples of accomplishments.  It can be done in a list of three or four bullets or in a paragraph format.  Include measured results whenever possible.  Numbers stand out in a letter and also make the accomplishment more concrete.
