What personal details am I required to include on my CV?

Dear Deb:

I am a U.S. citizen, living and working in the U.S.  I am considering relocating to the U.K.  What personal details am I required to include on my U.K. CV?

Thanks, Carla H.

Dear Carla:

In the not-so-distant past, you would have included date of birth, gender, marital status, driving record, and citizenship.  However, within the last 12 years some new laws were enacted in the United Kingdom to protect applicants and employees from discrimination.  Currently, employers are not allowed to assess applicants based on race, nationality, and date of birth, gender, or marital status.  The only personal details that you are required to include are: full name, address, telephone number, and email.  If driving is a requirement for your position (or if it is a selling point), you should indicate that you possess a driving license and have a clean record - if that is the case.

Wishing you all the best in your relocation!
