Secondary Language Profile on LinkedIN?

Dear Deb:

I am bilingual and seeking an international humanitarian program leadership role in South America.  Some of the jobs are with US organizations, and some are Latin American.  Should I have two LinkedIn profiles – one in English and one in Spanish?

Thank you,

Aron

Dear Aron:

Yes, in your situation it is smart to build a secondary language profile in Spanish.  Simply go to your LinkedIn profile page and click on “View Profile As” and from the drop-down menu select, “Create profile in another language.” Now you can select Spanish as the language from your secondary language profile.   LinkedIn will not translate the language, and you probably don’t want something as important as your profile to be auto-translated.  You will need to translate your content.  Also, take this time to edit anything particular to this target audience.

After you complete your secondary language profile, viewers will see your profile in the language that matches their language of preference. If the viewer uses LinkedIn in a language other than Spanish, your primary (English) site will be the default. Only Spanish preference viewers will see your Spanish language profile.

Wishing you all the best with your new LinkedIn profile and your career!

Deb
