Résumé Help - Senior Technical Development Professional

Today’s résumé help is for a candidate that we will call Ed. He has great technical skills, but his résumé is 10 pages long and filled with errors. He uses the first person, has some redundancies, and has made multiple word usage and punctuation errors throughout the document.

I appreciate the challenges that a technical professional can face when preparing a résumé. It can be particularly difficult if there have been many shorter contract engagements to convey all of the information in one or two pages.  In this case, a three page résumé may be necessary, but a 10 pager is ill advised.  It is simply too much information for recruiters and hiring managers.

Ed will want to pick out the most poignant highlights of each job and have a strong technical summary in order to avoid making his résumé too lengthy.  I have made additional recommendations for Ed that may be helpful to you as you prepare your own résumé.
