Résumé Help - Legal Vice President

Whenever I see an executive level résumé that needs a tremendous overhaul, it makes me pause and wonder.  Senior level professionals must take care to create a job search document that is highly professional. Today we are going to take a look at the first portion of a résumé for a Vice President and legal executive with an extensive history of success. We have redacted his personal information to keep his identity confidential.

Jason’s first mistake is to put a page number with his name above his contact information.  Not only is this unnecessary, but in this case the information inside of the header is wrong. It says page 2 prominently on page 1.  I am sure he can do better than this to represent himself professionally.

The other mistake that Jason makes is to use too much white space. He has huge and unnecessary gaps between sections.  While some white space is good, too much gives an unprofessional appearance.  Jason is also missing a strong headline and branding statement as well as a core competency section.
