Résumé Help: Asking Questions to Uncover Accomplishments
Clara’s résumé has great potential. The best way to improve her resume is to add a few strong achievements. Clara shared many of her job functions. However, Clara has had a difficult time going beyond her daily functions. This is very common. If you feel like your résumé does not have the punch you feel it needs, your résumé may be lacking in strong accomplishments. Another hint that your résumé may need a few more accomplishments is if your résumé closely resembles the job description issued by your company’s HR Manager.
As a writer, my job is to ask brainstorming questions to build the résumé. To demonstrate the technique, I have inserted sample questions in Clara’s resume. Using these brainstorming questions, Clara can take his statements to the next level. A good model to follow when inserting accomplishments is the CAR Model (Challenge-Action-Result). Within a brief one to two-line bullet, describe the challenge you identified, action you took, and the measured result.
