Online Résumés

Dear Deb,

Is it necessary to create an online résumé?  There are so many resumes online.  Mine will be lost in the sea of resumes. Also, I am concerned about Spam. Isn’t it better for me to apply to jobs that I like?   ~ Madison K., Albuquerque, NM

Dear Madison,

It is wise to perform a multi-faceted job search campaign, and that includes posting your résumé online.  Many recruiters and employers search for candidates online.  However, don’t rely upon that as your primary means of job searching. To reach more about an online résumé service, click here.

There are many candidates online, so it is critical that your résumé be worded carefully so key search words are included in the content of your resume. A well-written résumé will improve your success rate. Spam is a valid concern. Set up an email account specifically for your job search.  That is one way to control the Spam. If you do get email from Spammers, it is separated from your primary account.  To sum it up, if you are actively searching for a new job, use all methods available to you.
