Feng Shui Inspired Résumés

The Chinese words, Feng Shui, translate to wind and water.  Feng Shui is the study of one’s environment and it dates back thousands of years.  Feng Shui specialists recommend ways to improve the harmony in your work, home, and other environments. This harmony can lead to prosperity and well-being.  Some aspects of Feng Shui relate to résumé preparation and formatting.  Here are a few Feng Shui-inspired résumé tips.

1.)  Energy follows your focus.  If you are focused on your career, you will channel your energy on your career, and your chances of career success are much greater.  This is true of anything.  Step one is to create positive energy by focusing on improving your résumé.

2.) Tidiness is a key principle of Feng Shui.  Clearing clutter in your home or work environment is very important.  It reduces distractions.  Clutter also has a way of drawing energy, which can make one fatigued.  Ridding clutter from your résumé is equally important.  Clutter on a résumé comes in the form of unnecessary information, long-winded descriptions, or history not relevant to your career goal.  Résumé clutter distracts the reader and can be tiring to sift through.  Keep the reader’s attention by eliminating all clutter!

3.) We can create positive energy in our work place by displaying representations of our past achievements.  The same is true on a résumé.  Showcasing your biggest career achievements on your résumé is critical to your success.

4.) Color and movement foster energy in your home and on your résumé.  A touch of color and a bit of graphics, such as a line to distinguish sections of your résumé can bring vibrancy and energy to the document.

5.) Feng Shui is also known as the art of placement.  Harmony can be achieved from a well-placed, functional environment.  In a résumé, every item is well-placed to facilitate a quick read.  You can achieve this through logical categories and consistency in formatting techniques.
