Editing Your LinkedIN Profile

debraDear Debra:

Is it appropriate to change the order of my LinkedIn sections? I don’t have a lot of work history and the history that I have is not related to my career goal.   Is it OK to lead with my education and skills? How do I do this?

Thank you for your advice,

Benjamin

Dear Benjamin:

Yes! I encourage my clients to carefully choose the order of the sections so the strongest sections are at the top. You do not have to follow the default order. If your current employment is impressive, lead with that after your profile. If you are unemployed or making a big career change, perhaps you want to linkedinplace your education or skills section after the profile. It is easy to move the sections. Look for the arrow icon in the top right corner of the box that holds the section’s data. Click on that box and at the same time move the section box up or down.

In your case, your intuition is good. Moving your education above your history is a smart move.

Thank you for writing.

All the best,

Debra
