Showing Your Latest Role On LinkedIN

Dear Debra:

I set up my LinkedIn account and it is showing a volunteer unpaid position in my summary at the top of my profile. That does not seem right. Is this because I am currently unemployed?   What do you recommend that I do?

Thank you,

Sarina

Dear Sarina:

LinkedIn places your latest "role" as your headline. If your latest role is a volunteer position, that may be the headline chosen by the LinkedIn system. However, you can easily change your profile headline. Sign into your LinkedIn page and go into edit mode. Click on the edit (pencil) icon to the right of your headline. Now you have the option to write the headline of your choice in that field. You can feature your target occupation or your top three job skills.

I wish you all the best in your career!

Debra
