Résumé Help - Financial Software Sales Manager

As many of my regular readers know, every Monday we feature a résumé help section that takes a look a portion of a specific résumé. Today’s sample résumé is riddled with errors. Our candidate Joshua has some very impressive results to boast about, but his document has extremely poor punctuation and grammar. This is detracting from his effectiveness.

Hiring managers who view resumes that are filled with errors take notice; needless to say, interviews are scarce for those who submit problematic résumés – no matter how qualified they may be.  In today’s business environment, written communication is critical to success.  As a financial software sales manager, this candidate should be able to write proposals and business letters that are professional.  If his résumé has mistakes, what will one of his presentations look like?

One of Joshua’s critical errors is that he is missing a compelling headline or summary statement. He also did not include a core competency section.  His bullets contain some worthwhile information about performance; but he needs to follow the SAR method more closely.  SAR stands for situation, action, result.  This method will allow Joshua to highlight his achievements and show value to his potential employers.
