Résumé Help: Y2K…Why Bother?

What is the lesson here?  In the words of a Janet Jackson (a pop diva from Glen’s heyday), “What have you done for me lately?”   Employers are interested in a candidate’s most recent ten years. Because of this, candidates should only show their most recent ten to fifteen years of relevant work history.  By showing his early history, Glen runs the risk of reducing his chances in the job market. Spotlighting outdated achievements will make Glen seem like a dinosaur in comparison to fresh candidates with recent accomplishments and expertise in current technologies.

What should Glen do?  He should strike all experience older than fifteen years.  Next he needs to brainstorm to uncover a list of recent accomplishments that highlight the skills that an employer in today’s job market will value.
