Résumé Help - Sports Writer and Photographer
The résumé critique today is for an amateur photographer who wants to become a professional photographer and sports writer. She has some challenges on her résumé that will make it difficult for her to get hired.
She uses many personal pronouns throughout the résumé, which give it an unprofessional quality. Jennifer should create a more formal document, particularly because she is attempting to transition into a new career. She used red in her document, but rather than adding an appropriate splash of color, it makes it seem as though the document is in edit mode and has not been properly completed. The layout of the résumé is not as attractive as it could be.
Since photography requires a visual eye, Jennifer might want to consider finding a creative template and possibly adding a photo she took of a sporting event in the top left corner. This will add interest and a nice touch. Another thing Jennifer should do is remove the references from her résumé. Listing professional references directly on a résumé is not necessary. Jennifer will provide references when asked.
