Résumé Help: Sorting Out the Summary & Career Highlights Categories

Bert sent us his résumé for a review.   After reviewing, I notice that Bert is a top notch pharmaceutical sales representative.  However, he has hidden his accomplishments in a long bulleted list with other items, including job duties and skills.  We recommend that Bert revamp the structure of the résumé first page. We suggest replacing the Objective and Qualifications sections with Summary of Qualifications and Career Highlights sections.  The Objective statement can be eliminated completely.   The Summary of Qualifications should include a two to three-line overview of Bert’s most relevant skills and knowledge. The Career Highlights section should be four to five of Bert’s strongest career accomplishments. Making this structural change will better organize the data and allow the reader to quickly scan Bert’s top achievements.

Additionally, Bert had several typographical and grammatical errors.  If Bert opts to create his résumé on his own, he should ask a trusted peer with excellent grammar skills to proofread his résumé. If you want to read more about professional résumé, check out these blog entries.
