Résumé Help - Senior Procurement Analyst

As a professional résumé writer, I really enjoy the feeling I get when I am able to help someone. The transformation that occurs once a résumé is properly repositioned can be startling.  As a matter of fact, I received an email just yesterday from a client who got a job offer within a week and a half of having his résumé revised.  He had been searching for months without success.

The résumé help for today’s column focuses on an individual who will benefit greatly from a repositioning of his document.  He has the opportunity to improve his résumé substantially by correcting several errors that could be fatal.  Most candidates don’t realize the impact that sloppy work has on the impression they make.  Think about it.

All things being equal, if you were the boss, would you want to hire the candidate who pays attention to detail and presents a fully accurate document with good visual appeal, or would you opt for the person who has inconsistent verb tenses, forgets to punctuate properly, and neglects to expand upon the details of his duties in a way that clearly demonstrates value?

In all fairness, Lincoln’s résumé is not horrendous.  It just needs some basic revisions to make it more effective. A strong headline and branding statement, a powerful summary, a list of core competencies, and some quantifiable results will help a great deal. Once these components are added and some improvements to the English mistakes are made, his résumé will have a much greater impact.
