Résumé Help: More to the Story

Below we have shared a portion of Rocco’s résumé.  Rocco is a successful leader with recent success building a start-up from a very early stage through five years (and counting) of prosperity. However, he is very vague about his achievements.  I know there is more to Rocco’s story! He merely hints at the functions he performs and has not taken the next step to show the scope of his responsibilities. For example, the amount of funding he helped attain, the size of budgets, and value of major contracts.  Additionally, we do not know if he managed a staff.  He also has negotiated with Fortune 500 companies and launched products. It would be compelling to show examples of the Fortune 500 companies by name and the revenue value of the products.

Most clients that I consult struggle to define their accomplishments.  It is a common challenge.  If you find it difficult to toot your own horn, talk to a professional résumé writer.  These highly-specialized writers are trained to uncover your accomplishments and selling points. If you prefer to work independently, take time to review your career history so you share the rest of your story. If you want to read more about professional résumé, check out these blog entries.
