Résumé Help: Get to the Point
The résumé that we are reviewing today shows a common mistake. However, unchecked this mistake will cost you interviews. This client has started each one of her bulleted statements with a fluffy description of the skills she used to perform a function. In a few of these statements, she actually included an accomplishment. Unfortunately, the accomplishment is always at the end of the statement. If the reader makes it that far, the reader may see the result.
When interviewing clients, my goal is to uncover their biggest accomplishments. So many times clients will confuse attributes or skills with accomplishments. Your positive attributes are important, but that is not what sells you. On a résumé, it is your concrete, measured accomplishments that sell you. The best way to determine if a candidate will be successful is to get examples of past success.
So, stuff the fluff and get to the point. Start each bullet with the result. Hit heavy with those accomplishments to prove your past success.
