Résumé Help - Educator, Medical Office Administration

Today’s Résumé Help focuses on a well educated instructor who is currently employed, but is seeking a new role.  She makes the mistake of listing the job she is not employed at any longer first.  I am not sure if this is the best strategy. My guess based on how she has positioned her résumé is that she wants to do more teaching and less hands on administrative work.  However, it would be just that – a guess.

Tracy has neglected to include any really solid information about her skills and has made errors throughout her document.  She must provide a strong headline and let readers know what she wants to do.  Otherwise, they will be confused.  Tracy lists her skills at the very bottom of her résumé.  She would be better off creating a core competency section early on in the document to let readers know her strengths.

A well written summary statement that explains both her hard and soft skills will give a boost to her résumé also.  Since she has ample work experience, Tracy should move her education to the bottom of her résumé. She can certainly mention her Master’s degree in the summary though.  If she is going for a teaching position, that may have value.
