Résumé Help: Easy on the Eyes

Once again we have an accomplished job seeker who has a résumé that is holding her back.  There are several issues.  The biggest issue is readability.  We are showing a section of her résumé to focus on readability.  If the screener has to strain to read the document, it simply won’t be read.  The test is to glance at a document quickly; if you cannot pick up the highlights of the message in a couple of seconds, it is not effective.

What is hindering readability of this document?  The font is very small.  An 8 point font should never be used on a résumé, no matter the font type. In many font types 10 points is acceptable and optimal. She also has a two-tiered bullet system.  There is logic to her application of bullets. This allows the reader to understand the things that go together. However, the information provided is weak, which detracts from the overall impact of her document.

On the positive side, she has incorporated a good amount of white space on the résumé, so it is easy to read the dates and differentiate between the résumé sections.
