Résumé Help: Don’t Bury the Lead

Your résumé should be constructed and written so that it showcases your relevant skills, knowledge, and achievements.  If you scan a great résumé, those items should be apparent and memorable.  That is not the case with Natalie’s résumé.  One thing that I retained from a high school journalism class was this: “Don’t bury the lead.”   That is very true in your résumé.   Start with the power punch.

For example, look at this line from Natalie’s résumé:

  • Developed training programs to increase productivity and positive work relationships

If we dig deeper to define the productivity gain and lead with the power punch, it is a stronger statement:

  • Boosted productivity 18% and enhanced employee morale by developing training programs.

Take a look at your résumé.  Are you burying the lead?  If so, take a few minutes and add that power punch to your résumé.  If you would like Deb to review your résumé, click here.
