Résumé Help – Director of Sales

Overall, today’s résumé sample is a fairly strong one. The candidate, Elliot, includes a headline that lets readers know immediately he is a Director of Sales. He also provides a summary statement and a list of core competencies. In addition, Elliot provides an extra section focused on highlighting his sales and marketing skills. These are all good moves.

One of the challenges that Elliot has with this version of his résumé, is that he over-bulleted in nearly every section.  I generally don’t recommend going beyond 5 or 6 consecutive bullet points unless there are special circumstances. The reason for this is that the last few points will be completely overlooked by the majority of readers. It is better to be concise and consolidate your most important points.

In addition to over-bulleting, Elliot has some redundancies and includes a long, run on sentence that needs revision.  For specific recommendations regarding today’s résumé sample and to help you improve your own résumé, please click the image below.
