Photos on Resumes

Dear Deb:

My career counselor told me that it is not appropriate to put a photo on my resume.  I am applying to jobs as a business systems analyst.  I saw a report on the news that attractive people earn higher salaries.  Wouldn’t it make sense to leverage that asset on a resume?

What do you think?

Thanks!

Keri

Dear Keri,

I have seen those studies too.  However, in this case, your career counselor is correct.  It is not necessary to include your photo on the resume.  One of the reasons is that many employers and recruiters upload and scan resumes.  Graphics can cause resumes to be booted from the system. They won’t tell you that you were booted.  You will just wonder why you never had a response from that company or recruiter.

There is a way to make a connection through your image.  Add a link to your LinkedIn page to your contact information on your resume.  You can make a special URL on LinkedIn.   Then the employer will link to see your LinkedIn profile and the professional headshot that you have there.  Be sure your photo is professional.  In other words, no bare shoulders, no pets in the photo, or backgrounds at a party.  Have a friend or professional photographer take a headshot with you in a business top and a neutral background. Med Videospelautomater finner du svenska casinon på nätet som ger säkra spel men också bonus och jackpots.

Wishing you all the best in your career!

Deb
