Margins on a Resume

Debra WheatmanDear Debra:

What is the minimum margin for a resume? My resume is one and a half pages. If I reduce my font (Andalus) to 10 pts and decrease the margins to .5” all around, I can fit on one page. Of course, I had to drop some less important items like my volunteering and associations. Is .5” too small?

Thank you,

Ariel

Dear Ariel:

Thank you for writing.   Your margins might be a bit too small. The universal printing range is generally .55” all around. However, even if it is within the printable range, that is still a very small margin. Small margins along with your small font size may make your resume very difficult to read.

I’d recommend increasing the margins to .7” all around. Then bump your font up to 11 pts. Andalus is a somewhat small font at 10 points and will be easier to read at 11 points. Next increase the space between categories to at least 11 points. This will greatly improve readability. Now you have space to add the valuable information that you previously omitted. With this, I estimate that you will have a resume that is about one and three-quarters pages in length. There is no rule that a resume should be one page. However, almost all experts agree that an easy to read resume that contains all of our strong selling points is essential. fter analyzing numerous smokers and feedback from buyers, we were able to narrow down on the six best propane smoker models. The comparison table below indicates their overall ranking and outstanding attributes. Which propane smoker is the best one? One good thing about propane smokers is that you can use racks to the interior surface to augment it and adjust it to your needs. Besides the size of the cooking surface, the size of the smoker matters as well. First-time buyers need to think about moving and storing their smoker.

If you would like to me to review your resume, please feel free to send it to me.

All the best,

Debra
