Is it alright to reject a LinkedIn connection?

Debra WheatmanDear Deb:

Is it alright to reject a LinkedIn connection? I have an ex co-worker who was rather negative and a boundary crosser. I’d rather he not know what I am up to.

Thank you,

Aileen

Dear Aileen:

Yes, it is alright. On LinkedIn, you have the option to accept an invitation or ignore it. If you ignore it, the person will not receive a rejection notice.

You have another option if you have a concern about someone crossing boundaries or perhaps stalking you. You may block a person. When you do this, you will be invisible to that person. If they search for linkedinyou on LinkedIn, your page will not appear in the search results. You won’t be able to access each other’s profile pages. To block a member from viewing your profile: Go to the profile of the person you'd like to block, move your cursor over the down arrow next to the button in the top section of the member's profile and select “Block.” You can block up to 50 members on LinkedIn.

Wishing you all the best!

Debra
