How to Show Incomplete Certifications

Dear Deb:

I have completed all the coursework for my CCNPS (Cisco Certified Network Professional: Security), but I have not taken the test yet.  Can I add this to my resume?   I take the test in May.  But, I have jobs I want to apply to now.

Thank you,

Joel

Dear Joel,

Good for you!   In your field, these certifications are valuable.

Yes, you can show this on your resume.  In the “Certifications” section of your resume, you can write, “Cisco Certified Network Professional: Security (Coursework completed. Exam scheduled for May 2014.)”   If you do not have a “Certifications” section, you can write it in your “Training” or “Professional Development” section.

Thanks for writing!

Deb
