Hi Danny:

There is no one way to get potential employers to respond. You need to have a compelling and aesthetically pleasing resume and cover letter that is tailored for the positions for which you are applying. You need to make sure that you are delivering documents that provide the reader with a REASON to contact you - so they need to be accomplishment driven. If you only apply online, you will likely not get a lot of action. You need to use Linkedin, capitalize on your network, meet new people, go to networking events, and also work with some recruiters. The point is that you need to employ a proactive search strategy to get noticed.  I hope this helps.
