Following Up After an Interview

Dear Deb:

How long should I wait before sending a hiring manager a follow-up email after an interview?  It was a first interview and I met with the HR manager and the customer service manager in the same day.  Also, whom do I write to?

Thanks,

Carly P.

Dear Carly,

Great question!  Most candidate do not follow-up, ever. By following up you are ahead of the competition.  Within 24 hours of an initial interview, send a follow-up email to the hiring manager and the HR manager thanking them for the interview.  Write each person separately. Express your interest.  Mention something in the email to reinforce why you are an excellent candidate. For example, you could say this:  “You mentioned that your service representatives handle 60 calls per day. In my current position, I handle an average of 63 calls daily with a zero abandon rate and 100% issue resolution rate.”

Good luck with your customer service career!
