Completed Courses at Community College

Dear Deb:

I attended a community college for two years and then transferred to a more prestigious school for the last two years, culminating in my Bachelor of Business Administration. Do I need to list the community college on my resume?  I did not earn a degree there, just completed a bunch of courses allowing me to transfer.

Thanks for your advice!

Martine

Dear Martine:

The proper way to present your education in this scenario is to show the name of the university granting your degree, followed by the city and state. On the next line, write the name of your degree and field of study. If this is a recent degree (within the last 5 years) you may place the year of graduation after the degree/field of study.   It is not necessary to show the community college where you took your initial classes.

Wishing you all the best in your career!

Deb
