Today we see a portion of an executive’s résumé. This example is from Gladys. Gladys describes a leadership position that she held for nine years, yet we do not see any measured results. In fact, we do not see anything particular to the candidate. We see a series of very general functions that almost any VP of Business Development would perform. The reader wants to see what Gladys did. Here are some questions that Gladys can answer to help uncover her unique accomplishments.
- How many team members did you manage?
- Did you plan and control a budget? What was the size of that budget?
- What was the scope of the marketing program? What marketing methods were used? What was the budget? Can you measure the results of the marketing program?
- How much revenue was generated? How much more than in the past?
- What improvements did you introduce? What was the quantified result?
Are you facing the challenge of uncovering accomplishments? Start by creating a list of questions. Focus on digging up ways you helped the company to make money, save money, improve quality, enhance customer loyalty, and increase productivity. For each of those items, attach a figure.
